Mortal Shell 2 Mechanics Guide: The Combat System Explained

Updated Aug 31, 2026 锝?No stamina bar 鈥?Resolve drives everything
馃幆 TL;DR: Mortal Shell 2 removes the stamina bar. Offense runs on Resolve, defense runs on your equipped Seal (Guard / Harden / Parry / Slayer). Learn these and everything clicks.

1. Resolve 鈥?the No-Stamina Resource

There is no stamina bar. You can chain attacks, mix heavies, and sprint-attack freely. The trade-off is Resolve, a meter above your health that fuels:

Resolve is earned by staying on the offensive 鈥?hitting, killing, guarding, parrying, and hardening all fill it fast. Stop attacking and your options shrink.

馃挕 Key insight: The design rewards aggression. If an enemy lets you keep pressure on, you can literally never stop hammering them.

2. The 4 Seals (Your Defensive Tool)

Untarnished SealGuard (block)Perfect Guard 鈫?Break damage
Vatra's SealHarden (turn to stone)Perfect Harden 鈫?Break + instant cooldown refresh
Infinite SealParry (tight timing)Higher Break, breaks elites fast
Slayer SealSidearm-focusedExecutions restore HP/Resolve

3. Break & Riposte

Fill an enemy's Break bar with Perfect Guards, Perfect Hardens, or parries, then follow with a Riposte (execution) for heavy damage. See the Break & Riposte guide.

鈿狅笍 Red attacks: Unblockable sweeps, grabs, and impales cannot be guarded, hardened, or parried 鈥?when you see a red attack, dodge. This is the single most important defensive rule in the game.

4. Tarstones & the Tarforge

Tarstones are socketable upgrades (Support / Combat / Infusion / Ability). Level them at the Tarforge in Marrow Keep. See the Tarstones and Tarforge guides.

馃幆 Bottom line: "No stamina 鈥?build Resolve by attacking, defend with your Seal, fill Break for Riposte, and always dodge red attacks." Master that loop and the whole game opens up.
