Mortal Shell 2 Tarstones Guide: All 4 Types & How to Socket Them
馃幆 TL;DR: Tarstones are socketable upgrades with 4 types (Support / Combat / Infusion / Ability). Capacity is capped at 10 total, and they level up to 4.
1. The 4 Tarstone Types
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Support | Passive bonuses that don't depend on the weapon or sidearm |
| Combat | Trigger on hits or shots |
| Infusion | Hold a button to temporarily enchant your weapon (poison, curse, frost) at the cost of Resolve |
| Ability | Press a button to unleash a powerful skill that costs Resolve |
2. Socketing & Capacity
- 10 slots total: 4 Shell-compatible + 2 Combat + 2 Infusion + 2 Ability
- Most Combat, Infusion, and Ability Tarstones are restricted to specific weapons or sidearms
馃挕 Note: There are 73 Tarstones in the game. Your menu shows two extra empty slots on purpose 鈥?don't panic, that's intended.
3. How to Level Up Tarstones
- Go to the Tarforge, an ancient machine in Marrow Keep
- Hand Franz the Etching Needle to unlock upgrading
- Tarstones upgrade up to level 4 鈥?level 2 yields a Tarcore; level 3 costs 150 Gold + 6 Tarcore
馃挕 Upgrade strategy: Tarstones gain levels by defeating enemies while equipped. If you're about to explore an area, equip the Tarstone you actually want to improve.
馃幆 Bottom line: "Match the Tarstone type to your playstyle, socket the 10 slots you have, and level the ones you use by killing while equipped."
