Mortal Shell 2 Items Guide: All Items, Keys & Collectibles
🎯 TL;DR: Mortal Shell 2's items split into 7 groups: Key Items (keys & story items that open the world), Consumables (one-use buffs & heals), Collectibles (passive effects that persist), Upgrade Materials (fed to the Tarforge), Tradables (sell for Coin), Map Fragments, and Shop Items. Nothing is mandatory to hoard — most consumables are best used when you need them.
1. Key Items & Keys (open the world)
These progress areas or unlock doors. Keep them; they aren't consumed by use.

- Chapel Key — unlocks the Chapel doors outside Mushroom Village
- Basement Key — opens the basement to the strange house
- Blackmarrow Key — opens a locked treasure in Marrow Keep
- Crypt Key — opens a locked door within a dungeon
- Damp Key — opens the Sinking Village's secret
- Chest Key — unlocks a particular chest
- Feeding Room Key — unlocks the door at the bottom of the well
- Hideout Cage Key — unlocks the makeshift hideout cell
- Central Shaft Lever — opens the Central Shaft Gate in the mines
- Citadel Gate Lever — unlocks the main gate to the Citadel of Penance
- Gloombound Flame — a unique flame for the lantern atop Marrow Keep (Night Mode)
- Immaculate Crown — unlocks secrets within the ice
- Makeshift Projectile — ammunition for a great siege weapon
- Depleted Gland / Faded Gland — remnants of the Revered; still useful
- Heart of Vatra — the heart of a long-dead Revered (see Gragu quest)
- Etching Needles / Foundry Stone — bring to Franz to unlock Tarforge functions
- Alluring Mushroom — effects unknown (subject to verification)
2. Consumables (one-use)
- Archaic Tome — gain 1 Level
- Elixer — fully restores HP
- Homemade Draught — refills up to 1 Healing charge

3. Collectibles (passive effects that persist)

- Galvanic Shard — cures, +50% Lightning mitigation for 30s
- Burnt Effigy — +Burn resistance; each 10 owned = +1 Burn mitigation
- Common Moonshine — restores Resolve; each 100 owned = +5 max Resolve
- Grisha Remnant — summons a Grisha to fight for you
4. Upgrade Materials (feed the Tarforge)
These go to Franz / the Tarforge to enhance gear. See the full ladder in our Materials guide.
- Ventrium, Laterite, Dorsalite, Thoracium, Ossinite — the enhancement materials by tier
- Endless Core — feed to the Tarforge to remove the level cap
5. Tradables (sell for Coin)
- Coin of Mammon — trade for 500 coins
- Devout's Chalice — trade for 100 coins
- Extracted Specimen — trade for 100 coins
6. Map Fragments & Shop Items
- Map Fragments — mark the location of weapons/sidearms on your Map (e.g. "Location: Axe and Dagger", "Location: Obsidian Hammer")
- Shop Items — e.g. Gloom Dregs (gain 1 Gloom), purchasable from merchants like Merrick
⚠️ Subject to verification: item names and exact effects are community-compiled and can differ slightly from the final game build. Some entries (marked above) are not yet fully confirmed.
🎯 Bottom line: "Keys unlock, consumables buff, collectibles persist, materials upgrade." Don't hoard Key Items or materials — spend Coin on healing upgrades early, and feed materials to the Tarforge as soon as you unlock each function.
